Welcome!
In April 1995 a group of mothers met to discuss the formation of a Toy Library for the Katikati community. After this meeting a committee was set up, fund raising began, toys were purchased, the constitution and rules were set up and premises found in which to run this library. The Katikati Community Toy Library officially opened in October 1995.
What is a Toy Library
Toy Libraries operate like a book library. Toys are taken home, played with and then returned, usually within a two-week borrowing period. Toy Libraries expose children to a variety of toys without being too expensive for families. They also allow parents and children the opportunity to experiment with different sorts of toys before making a purchase. It means children will never get bored with their toys as they can easily change them and get something new.
The Aim of the Toy Library
The aim of the Toy Library is to provide access to a wide range of stimulating, educational and fun toys & games for children in the community, from birth through to ten years of age. However, the main emphasis is on preschoolers. A range of toys for special needs children is also available.
How the Toys are Purchased
We generate income to purchase toys in a number of ways. Grants are a major source of income. These are applied for through various national sponsorship bodies and local pub charities. We also fund raise through the Toy Library members e.g raffle selling.
When is the Library open?
We employ a Librarian to run our Toy Library sessions. Volunteers are required each session to do desk duty.
Venue: Katikati Christian Centre, 4 Henry Road, Katikati
Session Times:
Tuesdays 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Wednesdays 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
The Library is closed during the Christmas School Holidays.
